A Santorini day trip from Mykonos is a long day: fast ferries take two to three hours each way depending on the vessel and the sea state. Organised tours bundle the crossing with a bus tour of Oia and Fira, which is the practical way to see the caldera without planning connections yourself.
Tinos is the closest island and the easiest independent day trip — a pilgrimage town, marble-carving villages and an entirely different pace. Naxos and Paros are larger islands with good beaches and old towns, and both work as a day trip when ferry timetables line up.
The Meltemi wind in July and August can delay or cancel sailings at short notice. Book day trips with free cancellation where possible, and avoid scheduling one for the day before your flight home.
