The most convenient beach day on the island

Platis Gialos is a long, sandy, fully organised beach facing south, with a line of hotels and restaurants behind it and a small jetty from which sea taxis run east along the coast. Several day cruises also depart from here rather than the Old Port, which makes it a handy base if you plan to spend most days on the water.

The beach itself is one of the busiest on the island in July and August, with sunbeds in rows and a steady turnover of boats. It is well suited to families and to people who want everything — lunch, showers, a jet ski — within a few metres of their towel.

For something quieter, Paraga is a short walk over the headland to the east, and Psarou is a short walk to the west.

Beach

Sandy, sheltered, organised and lively. Sunbeds, tavernas and water-sports rentals along the whole length.

Nights

Beach restaurants and hotel bars; a quiet evening compared with Paradise next door, and a short ride from town for anything louder.

Getting around

One of the best bus-served beaches: regular services from Fabrika station in season. Sea taxis east to Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia leave from the jetty.
