The see-and-be-seen beach, with the calmest water on the coast

Psarou is a short, sheltered bay just west of Platis Gialos, and it has become the most expensive stretch of sand in Greece. Yachts anchor a few hundred metres offshore, the beach clubs charge accordingly, and the hotels on the slopes behind are among the island's grandest.

None of that changes the water, which is clear, shallow and almost always calm — arguably the best swimming on the south coast. The public part of the beach is small but real, and you do not need a sunbed reservation to use it.

Come for lunch and a swim if you are curious; stay if the budget allows and you want a quiet, polished base with town only a short drive away.

Beach

Small, sandy, exceptionally calm. Dominated by beach clubs; a modest free section remains.

Nights

Long lunches that turn into evenings at the beach clubs; for late nights, town is a ten-minute taxi ride.

Getting around

Buses from Fabrika station stop above the beach; a steep walk down. Sea taxis use neighbouring Platis Gialos. Parking is very limited.
