Boats to Delos leave from the Old Port in Mykonos Town, and the crossing takes roughly half an hour. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and covers a whole small island: the Terrace of the Lions, the sanctuary of Apollo, mosaic-floored houses of the Hellenistic town, and a theatre with views back across to Mykonos.
A guided tour is worth the extra cost here. Without context, Delos is a lot of low walls and column stumps in the sun; with a licensed guide, it becomes one of the great ancient cities of the Aegean. Half-day tours typically combine the boat, the site entrance and a guide, then leave you free time before the return.
Delos closes on certain days and hours change by season, so tours run on a fixed schedule. Bring water, a hat and proper shoes: there is little shade and the ground is uneven. Rhenia, the island beside Delos, is where most swim-stop cruises anchor afterwards.
