Water Sports & Diving

Clear water and reliable wind make Mykonos good for more than swimming. Diving centres work the reefs and a few wrecks; Kalafatis and Ftelia are the windsurfing beaches; the south-coast beaches rent everything with a motor.

About water sports & diving in Mykonos

Diving here is mostly shore-based or short boat rides to rocky reefs, walls and a couple of wrecks, with visibility that is often excellent in the morning. Discover-dive sessions for beginners are common; certified divers can book guided dives and courses.

Kalafatis on the south-east coast is the island's water-sports hub, with a steady breeze in the afternoons that suits windsurfing and kitesurfing lessons. Jet-ski, tube and wakeboard sessions are sold on the beach at Platis Gialos, Paradise and Elia in season.

Sea kayaking and stand-up paddle trips run in the sheltered bays in the morning before the wind rises.
